Training Run Fail

I went to the gym yesterday morning and cranked out an easy 4 miles. The first mile at 5.7 (10:32/mile), the next two at 6.0 (10:00/mile) or 6.2 (9:41/mile) and the last at 5.7 again. Or something like that. After I finished stretching, Martin texted me that he was there. So back on the treadmill I hopped to keep him company as he ran. (We're both doing Bay to Breakers in May. It will be his first race, so we're acclimating him to gradual mileage build-up.)

I wasn't in the mood to just plod along, so I did speed intervals. I warmed up again for the first half mile at 5.7 (10:32/mile). Then I started running at 7.5 (8:00/mile) for a quarter mile and then walking briefly to recover and then back at 7.5 again for another quarter mile. I did that until I got to 3 miles. Surprisingly I finished those 3 miles in under 31 minutes. I remember struggling repeatedly last year to finish 3 miles in under 30 minutes. And now I'm taking a ton of walking breaks and still finishing it in under 31 minutes.

Then last night I did Insanity's Max Interval Circuit, which sucked serious ass and during which I wanted to quit so many time and would have if Martin wasn't doing it with me and told me to just stick through it. I had taken a week off from Insanity because of Hawaii and because I was sick. So starting back up was super hard.

Anyway, this morning, I thought I would do a quick 3 miles - 1 mile warm-up and perhaps the next 2 at 6.5 (9:14/mile). I mean, I was doing 7.5 intervals yesteday. 6.5 should be a piece of cake, right? Yeah, no. After my 1 mile warm-up, I did 6.5 for about a half mile and then had to walk. Repeat. I still finished 3 miles in under 31 minutes, but I felt super disappointed in myself. Heh. I blame doing Insanity last night for my tired legs.
