Is it fun?

I was talking with my coworker, David, yesterday about running. He said that no one runs for fun. The only time running is fun is when you're playing tag, because then you don't even think about it. I argued with him, saying that I run because it's fun.

Then when I hit the treadmills after work yesterday, I realized I was a liar, because I was not having fun. I was busy thinking about my new gait, keeping my arms low and my foot turn-over fast. It was a chore. It was not fun.

So after 1.5 miles I stopped. The original plan was to do an easy 6 miles. I figured I would have fun. I would run at different speeds depending on what song was playing and its tempo. So I ran anywhere from 5.7 (10:31/mile) to 7.0 (8:35?/mile) and walked for about a minute between each song. I varied my strides and arm swings and just had fun. Much better.

I had trouble stretching afterward. My ass was still sore from doing P90X's Legs and Back the day before. I am out of shape!
