Today is my rest day. And a much needed one at that.
After my failed 10 mile run last week, I figured I'd do it yesterday. And I did! Yay! Since I had to take care of a few things in the morning, I hit the gym in the afternoon to do the run. I don't like running on the streets other than in the early morning because I don't like cars and people and hecklers. So I laced up my running shoes, grabbed a GU and told the husband I'd be back in about 2 hours.
The run went quite well. I did the first warm-up mile at my easy 5.5. Then I did the next 4 miles at 5.7. After 5 miles I had to stop to walk for about a minute so I could take my GU (strawberry-banana flavor, okay tasting, but I don't think I'll buy it again) and drink some water. Then back to 5.5 for half a mile, then 5.7 again for the duration of the run. Mile 9 and the first half of Mile 10 were the hardest for me. But I pushed through and did it. I felt pretty good after, too. It was my first 10 mile run since I had injured my foot. The first five miles logged in at 53:01. The second five at 52:50. So what's that? 1:45:51.
And then I drove home, took a hot shower, lazed on the bed for a while and felt like I had gotten hit by a truck. I do not recover well from long runs. And then to add to my pain, my back was feeling sore, too, from my P90X workout (Chest and Back) from Wednesday. The price one pays for fitness. My schedule also called for Insanity's Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs last night, but I already knew there was no way in hell I could do that as sore as I was.
Next week is Recovery Week for me for Insanity. Thank God! And woo-hoo for me! I made it to Week 5!
And let's jump on the resolution band-wagon, shall we?
1. Work towards a 9:30 mile.
2. Strength-train at least twice a week. Okay, that sounds like too much to expect from me. Let's go with once a week.
3. Drink at least 3 bottles of water a day. An old trainer of mine told me I should be drinking 6-7 bottles of water a day. And I used to. But I have been slacking majorly. So 3 sounds like a doable goal for now.
Alright, in a year, we'll see how I did.
Happy new year, everyone!
