I was going to do 6 miles at the gym today. I did the first mile at 5.7 (10:32/mile) and the next two at 6.0 (10:00/mile). Then I stopped to take a drink of water and started again at 6.2 (9:41/mile). However, I got to maybe around .40 of that mile when I thought to myself, "Fuck this shit," and just started walking. I wasn't enjoying the run at that point and it was supposed to be my "recovery" day. So I just tried out different speeds for the rest of the mile since that seemed like more fun than continuing at a hard pace I wasn't having fun with. I did 6.5 (9:14/mile), 7.0 (8:34) and 7.5 (8:00). I even finished that mile in 10:XX even with all the walking breaks I was taking.
When I got home, I shoved a couple of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and Doritos into my mouth (I needed carbs to both recover from the run and for energy for Insanity, right?), then popped Insanity's Max Recovery into the PS3. Shaun T was wearing skin-tight black tights in this work-out. Hehe. Nice.
This workout was about 50 minutes. Sigh. It just felt long and boring. I don't think I'll be doing a second round of Insanity once I finish. Ugh! Three more weeks to go after I finish this one. Sigh.
With this workout being your recovery, it has a slower pace and no super-cardio moves. There were a lot of plank exercises. There was one set of exercises that made me feel like a wuss. I don't remember everything it entailed, but it did have you do "military style" push-ups. Shaun T didn't call them that, but that's what Tony Horton calls them in P90X. I can do regular push-ups. But these push-ups have your hands directly below your shoulders, and when you go down, your elbows are close to your sides, so it requires a lot of triceps strength, which I guess I obviously don't have. I had to do these on my knees. When the work-out makes you do these again later, I was able to do them on my toes, but I could just barely bend my elbows.
So yep, I've now gone through all the Month 2 work-outs. And I don't like any of them. Sigh. Three more weeks. Just gotta make it through three more weeks...
