Ice Skating

The kiddos had an ice skating field trip yesterday. The husband and I went with. I figured the husband could stay with my daughter, and I would stay with the boy, since you know, he's practically attached to my hip all the time anyway with me being his favorite person and all.

My daughter kicked ass on the ice and pretty much skated independently the whole time.

The boy? Eh, not so much.

He and I would do a few rounds around the rink, and then he'd want to take a break and go get some snacks. Then we'd repeat the pattern. He's so much like his mama. hehe.

Anyway, that was hard work. Trying to keep a child from falling on the ice while keeping your own balance takes a lot of conentration. The skates hurt my feet. I guess I'm just used to my cushy running shoes. And how the hell does one skate backwards? The husband and I tried it and most of the time we just stood there like fools facing the wrong direction because we couldn't get ourselves to move.

Last night I figured I needed to get some strength training in. So I did P90X's Chest and Back. I think I'm getting weaker. I had problems completing 12 reps of most of the exercises. In the past, I've been able to do 15-25. Even with that in mind, I only did half of the workout. (Chest and Back has you doing about a dozen exercises in the first half, and then it has you doing the same exercises in a slightly different order in the second half. (e.g. It starts with standard push-ups, then wide-grip pull-ups. In the second half, you do the wide-grip pull-ups first, then the standard push-ups.)) I knew I had to save a whole lot of energy for Insanity, which I did immediately afterwards.

Max Interval Circuit wasn't as daunting this time as it was last time. It was still hard, and I still couldn't match them move for move. But I still mananged to do most of the exercises with fewer breaks. And I felt pretty good when I was done. Perhaps there's hope in this after all.
